Novak Djokovic can play at the US Open again in 2023 after the country’s hygiene measures were eased for those dates
Novak Djokovic, the reigning Australian Open champion, has received another piece of welcome news in recent days. His decision not to vaccinate against the Covid 19 virus brought him a lot of trouble last year. He played only two of the four majors, the ones played in Europe, and he missed several Master 1000s. United States health regulations denied him entry and the possibility of continuing to increase his numbers. This year, however, the rules are not the same and the Serb gets to play at least in the US Open.
The Serbian returns to Flushing Meadows, a place that has been against him recently. Since he became champion in 2018, the following versions have been negative for Nole for various reasons. In 2019, he had to withdraw in the round of 16 against Wawrinka due to injury. The following year, an infamous incident with a linesman cost him disqualification from the tournament and much controversy. In 2021, he lost the final against Medvedev and was on the verge of winning four majors that year, and in 2022 he could not compete because he did not have a full vaccination schedule.
This year, Novak has a chance to get revenge and seek his fourth trophy at the United States Open, the tournament that will be the most resistant to him after Roland Garros. Nole will also be able to compete in the Cincinnati Master 1000 as restrictions allow for those days as well. Despite this, misses Miami and the Indian Wells Masters again, because on those days the restrictions remain valid. For the second year in a row, the Serbian faces a season where it is impossible to play these tournaments, and he has to organize his calendar in a different way.
