British tennis star Emma Raducanu has delayed her return to competitive action as she withdraws from the ATX Open in Austin due to illness. Raducanu, 20, was scheduled to play her first tournament since the Australian Open at a WTA 250 event in Austin.
Unfortunately, Raducanu is currently dealing with tonsillitis and will not be highlighting the inaugural ATX Open. In his message, Raducanu expressed his thanks to the Austin organizers for going out of their way to give him a warm welcome to the tournament.
“I am sorry to have to withdraw from the ATX Open. I currently suffer from tonsillitis and cannot compete this week. Thanks to the tournament for the great hospitality here in Austin.» Raducanu said in a statement.

Raducanu suffers another setback
In Australia, Raducanu was dealing with an ankle injury. After the Australian Open, Raducanu took time to treat his ankle injury before returning to action.
Earlier this month, Raducanu sent a message confirming that his plan was to return to action in Austin. «Hi Austin, this is Emma. I’m really looking forward to coming down and playing the tournament there. I’ve heard so many great things about the city and I’m looking forward to checking it out.»
Hope to see you there,» Raducanu said in a video message he posted to his Instagram story earlier this month. Unfortunately, Raducanu has had a rocky start to the season. In his first tournament of the season in Auckland, Raducanu poorly shot his ankle.
Although Raducanu was able to compete at the Australian Open, it was a race against time, and he was not quite fit for the season-opening Grand Slam. Now, Raducanu is again dealing with a setback and is forced to miss a tournament. The next tournament on Raducanu’s schedule is Indian Wells, where he received a wild card into the main draw.
