The another tournament in the city of Adelaide chose Alexander Davidovich Fokina to start the season. The Malaga man arrived after finishing the year with an injury that prevented him from being 100% in his last match against Fritz. His rival, Brandon Nakashima, also played his first game of the season. The American managed to win the Next Gen Finals trophy in his last tournament in 2022. The ranking offered an even match where the Spaniard was a slight favorite. This match would open the two tennis players up against each other.

Hostilities began in the third game of the set when Davidovich managed to break his rival’s bid with the second break point at his disposal. Nakashima is a skilled player and he proved it by collecting three breaking balls in the next game. However, the Spaniard coped well and was able to save them to maintain the lead. In the sixth game, the Spaniard saved another break point and the American charged, giving up his serve again and losing the set.

With the first quarter in the hands of the Spaniard, the second started with both players more stable. The first break option came in the sixth game, and Davidovich served up a 3-2 deficit.
