British tennis star Daniel Evans praised Roger Federer for being very humble and a «down to earth» type of person. Evans, 32, had the chance to bat with Federer on numerous occasions. Every time Evans hit Federer, the Swiss and his team were extremely friendly.
«Yeah, him and his team are great for me. We practiced a bunch of times. Obviously I think two and a half weeks once in Dubai every day. Yeah, it was great. Roger was great,» Evans said. by Sportskeeda. «Yeah, I think the biggest compliment I can give him is that he was a very, very normal, down-to-earth person who was obviously good at king status in the sport.
He treated me, and he treats everyone exactly like the normal guy on the street treats his partner. That was the biggest compliment I can give him. Obviously a very good practice partner to practice with. Yeah, it was like his phone, it would never ring loudly at a press conference.»
Evans never defeated Federer
Over the course of his career, Evans faced Federer four times. The first meeting between Evans and Federer came at Wimbledon 2016, when the Swiss handed the Briton a straight-set loss. In 2019, Federer earned a straight-set win over Evans at the Australian Open.
That same year, Federer also handed Evans a three-set loss at the US Open. Last year, Evans and Federer met for the fourth and final time. After being out for a year, Federer returned to competitive action in March 2021, in Doha.
In the Doha Round of 16, Federer edged Evans 7-6 (8) 3-6 7-5. Evans came close to beating Federer in Doha, but at least this time he managed to win a set against Federer. Evans never got a win against Federer, but getting the opportunity to practice with the Swiss from time to time will certainly be something he will never forget.
