Caroline Garcia Reacts To Winning Biggest Title Of Her Career At Wta Finals

Caroline Garcia reacts to winning the biggest title of her career at the WTA Finals

Caroline Garcia, 29, described winning the WTA Finals as «a great happiness» as she was proud of her campaign in Fort Worth, Texas. On Monday, Garcia defeated Aryna Sabalenka 7-6(4) 6-4 to win the prestigious season-ending tournament.

Garcia, who captured her first WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati over the summer, is now the WTA Finals champion as well. “It’s definitely a lot of giant happiness. A crazy final, a lot of intensity at each point. Really proud of the work we did throughout the year.

It was a great match, I really did. I am very happy to win my biggest title,» Garcia said, according to the WTA website.

Garcia over the edge I’ll tell you

The first set could not have been tighter as there was not a single break point during the first set.

In the tie break, Garcia won six points in a row to open a 6-2 lead before converting her third set point to win a tight opener. After winning the first set, Garcia broke Sabalenka in the first game of the second set and then held serve the rest of the match to complete a straight-set victory.

“Just very happy about the mentality, being really calm at all times. All the negative emotion doesn’t get to me, and that was really a big part of taking the few chances I had in the tiebreaker and the first game I broke it in the second,» Garcia added.

The final between García and Sabalenka was decided by a few points. After the match, Garcia admitted that the key for her was delivering when it mattered most. “Sometimes you are emotional or things don’t go your way.

I mean, sometimes there’s a big fight, so you have to find your way through it. Some points, where nothing can be done. Just try to put the return and run as fast as you can to the other side. And that was one of the most important points that I improved. Today one of the most important things was to stay calm and take advantage of every opportunity,» Garcia explained.
