Clara Tauson is a Danish professional tennis player, who became the youngest Danish champion in tennis. Her career-high rankings are world No 52 in singles, reached on September 20, 2021. She had 3 WTA and 9 ITF titles.
Clara Tauson was born on December 21, 2002, in Gentofte Hospital, Copenhagen. As an amateur junior, she became the European Youth Olympic champion in 2017 and the European Junior champion in 2018. Between 2016 and 2019, she won nine singles titles on the ITF Junior Circuit. In 2019, she won the Australian Open Junior and became the first Danish girl to top the junior world ranking.
Clara Tauson made her professional tennis debut in September 2017 at the $15,000 W15 Antalya (Turkey), where she reached the semi-finals and despite her young age (only 15 years old) showed great talent. Later the same year, Clara Tauson won her first ITF trophy at the $15,000 W15 Stockholm (Sweden).
In 2019, she started the year with great success winning the Australian Open Junior. By the end of the year, she won the titles at $15,000 W15 Monastir (Tunisia), $60,000 W60 Shenzhen (China), $15,000 W15 Xiamen (China), and $60,000 W60 Meitar (Israel). She was the runner-up at the $15,000 W15 Kaltenkirchen (Germany) and $25,000 W25 Darmstadt (Germany).
Clara Tauson made her debut in the WTA Tour in 2020 at the WTA 125 Prague Open, reaching the fourth round. The same year she debuted at the Grand Slam as well, reaching the second round of the French Open / Roland Garros. Meanwhile, Clara Tauson won two more ITF trophies at $25,000 W25 Glasgow (UK) and $15,000 W15 Oeiras (Portugal).
Clara Tauson made a real breakthrough in 2021, winning her first WTA titles at WTA 250 Open 6ème Sens – Métropole de Lyon, WTA 125 Oracle Challenger Series, and WTA 250 BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open. During the year she also won two ITF trophies at $25,000 W25 Altenkirchen (Germany) and $25,000 W25 Fujairah (UAE). During the year she first time entered the Top 100 and climbed to a career-high ranking of No 52 in September.
