Stefanie Voegele is a professional Swiss tennis player, who had won 8 ITF titles and is twice runner-up at the WTA tour. She achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No 42 on November 11, 2013. Her best performance at the Grand Slam tournaments is the third round of the French Open in 2013.
Stefanie Voegele was born on March 10, 1990, in Leuggern, Switzerland. She was introduced to tennis at the age of four by her parents. She is a right-handed player, performing two-handed backhand. In 2007 she won European Junior Championships.
In 2006, Stefanie Voegele won her first ITF trophy at the $10,000 Tel Aviv. She also reached the semi-finals at the $10,000 Thessaloniki. Next year, she registered another great success in the ITF tour, despite her young age, winning the $10,000 Hyderabad and the $25,000 Torun, together with the European Junior Championships. She also was runner-up at the $25,000 Belfort, the $25,000 Mumbai, the $50,000 Dnepropetrovsk, and the $50,000 W60 Nantes.
For the first five months of 2009, Stefanie Voegele participated in several WTA Tour events, needing to play through the qualifying rounds of most tournaments. During this period, she never won a main-draw match in such an event. However, she was runner-up at the $100,000 Bucharest and $50,000 Nottingham. In June, she qualified for the Wimbledon but lost in the first round from Venus Williams. In July, she made a breakthrough at the WTA 250 Slovenia Open in Portoroz, reaching the semi-finals, but lost from Sara Errani (1-6; 2-6). Later the same year, she played at the US Open, where reached the second round.
Next years, Stefanie Voegele played at various tournaments, but hardly made anything remarkable, except winning ITF trophies at $25,000 Bath (2011), $25,000 W25 Clermont-Ferrand (2012), $75,000 Toyota (2012). In 2013, she reached the semi-finals at the WTA 250 US National Indoor Tennis Championships in Memphis, the WTA 500 Charleston Volvo Car Open, the WTA 250 Upper Austria Ladies Linz, and the WTA 250 BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open, as well as the third round of the French Open (Roland Garros). In December 2013, Stefanie Voegele made a remarkable performance at the WTA 500 Brisbane International, eliminating Madison Keys and Sabine Lisicki, en route to the quarter-finals, where lost in a thought match versus Victoria Azarenka.
In the next two years, her performance was marked by some good games but hardly succeeded to keep the pace in the higher class tournaments. In February 2018, she reached the final of WTA 250 Abierto Mexicano TELCEL Presentado Por HSBC in Acapulco., but lost from Lesia Tsurenko. Two months later, she reached the semi-finals at the WTA 250 Lugano Open, but again her road to the trophy was stopped, this time by Aryna Sabalenka. However, Stefanie Voegele the ITF title in $100,000 W100 Contrexeville.
In 2020, she lost her second WTA final, this time at WTA 125 Oracle Challenger Series in Newport Beach.
