Simona Halep is a professional tennis player from Romania.
She started training tennis at the age of 4, at the insistence of her older brother Nicolae. As of October 9, 2017, Simona Halep is the new number 1 in the WTA rankings.
Her professional career started in 2006. The most serious success, as a young tennis player is winning the title of «French Open» for juniors in 2008. In the final match, Simona Halep broke the resistance of her compatriot Elena Bogdan with a score of 6:4, 6:7, 6:2. On the way to the final in the same tournament, the Romanian tennis player removed two of the most progressive young hopes in women’s tennis, Jessica Moore from Australia and Arantxa Rus from the Netherlands.
From the official calendar of ITF tournaments, Simona Halep has won a total of 10 titles (6 in individual competitions and 4 in doubles). She won her first singles title on April 30, 2007, at a tournament in Bucharest. In the final of the tournament, she defeated her compatriot Cristina-Andreea Mitu with a score of 7:6, 6:0. An interesting detail is that four of these tournaments won by Simona Halep took place in the Romanian capital Bucharest.
