World number 8 Taylor Fritz will become highest ranked American men’s tennis player since Mardy Fish was ranked world No. 7 in 2011by tennis.com. Last October, Fritz broke into the top 10 for the first time in his career and achieved his career-high ranking of No. 8 in the world.
When the ATP rankings list is updated on Monday, Fritz will reach a new, career-high ranking of world No.7. The last American tennis player to rank that high was Fish, who was ranked No. 7 in September 2011.
After beating Jack Sock in the Round of 16 in Dallas, Fritz vowed to keep working hard and improving his game. “I just need to keep working on the things that I need to work on to get better, that got me to this point. I always expect a lot from myself and put a lot of pressure on myself, but I just need to keep working and improving and hopefully the results will come.» Fritz said, for tennis.com.
Fritz took a risk and it paid off
Fritz, 25, is a Tour veteran who turned professional in 2015. In 2015, Fritz was considered one of the most talented and promising players in the United States. After taking some time to decide on his next move, Fritz took a chance and decided to skip college and go pro.
«Going pro at 17, I would say, is the fear of all senior juniors. What I did so well in juniors, what if I don’t make it? Like ‘everything is real now’. Everything I did before was amazing , but now it’s like ‘this is it, this is it’ I’ve always known, how can you be the best in the world if you don’t really, like, believe you can be.
You’re never going to achieve every goal if you want to if you really believe you can do it,» Fritz recently told Team Optimum. Fritz is now one of the best players in the men’s game.
