Iga, now fully adapted to Madrid
– I am gaining experience playing here, and in every game it has been easier to maintain discipline and make the right decisions. Because at first I felt that I had to be much more careful with some very different details than in, say, Stuttgart. Now it’s more natural, I can use my intuition more. That’s what I was looking for. I’m going to go step by step because each game has different conditions. It’s really cool tomorrow, so there’s always something to do. I’m glad I played a good match today«.
Stay focused after a 6-0 win
«It depends, sometimes during the same day it varies. I’ve learned to deal with it regardless of what thoughts are in my head. I try to reset myself and start from scratch in every series, as well as taking into account that my opponent will surely also want to start over, maybe change something or simply play better. It helps me stay focused. Sometimes in tennis we don’t control everything that happens. Every situation is different. I also had a lot of situations where I won sets 6-1 or 6-2, something very similar. So I learned to carry it well.»
Varies between day and night play
«I don’t think it matters. I just mean every day is different so there’s a challenge. I’m glad I played both day and night so I have the full experience. I don’t think it matters that much. At night it’s challenging just because of what happens afterwards, I have to sleep very late and wake up early the next day. But before and during the match, it doesn’t matter much. We just have to adjust our tactics.»
