Tsitsipas, 24, will make his sixth main draw appearance in Rotterdam next February.
After suffering first-round tournament losses in 2017 and 2019, Tsitsipas reached the round of 16 in Rotterdam in 2020. Tsitsipas’s first big run in Rotterdam came last year, when he reached the semi-final before losing to Andrey Rublev.
This year, Tsitsipas came close to winning his first Rotterdam title as he finished second to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final. So far, three players have been confirmed for the Rotterdam 2023 edition: Tsitsipas, Auger-Aliassime and Daniil Medvedev.
Tsitsipas came close to winning Rotterdam this year
In February, Tsitsipas made his first final of the year in Rotterdam. In the final, Tsitsipas faced Auger-Aliassime, who dealt him a 6-4, 6-2 loss. After losing his first eight ATP Finals, Auger-Aliassime defeated Tsitsipas to finally win her first ATP title in his ninth final.
After the final was over, Auger-Aliassime described beating Tsitsipas for the Rotterdam title as the happiest day of his career. “I have a lot of good memories playing here in front of you, so thank you for making it a special week for me that I will remember for the rest of my life.
It’s the happiest day of my career and I hope it’s the first of many to come», Auger-Aliassime said. For his part, Tsitsipas showed his class after the Rotterdam final and admitted that Auger-Aliassime’s level was good and who deserved to win the final.
“He played a very good game, producing very good shots and serving well the entire game. I couldn’t serve well at all today. He played very well,» Tsitsipas said. The ATP 500 event in Rotterdam usually features a star-studded field of players. Whether Tsitsipas can win his first Rotterdam title next year remains to be seen.
