Tsitsipas, 24, is set to make his third appearance on the grass courts of Halle.
Tsitsipas, ranked at No. 3 in the world, has not had much success in Halle so far. In 2018, Tsitsipas suffered a round of 16 defeat in his Halle debut. Last year, Tsitsipas returned to Halle and again exited the tournament in the round of 16 after losing to Nick Kyrgios.
On the other hand, Hurkacz, 26, will make his fourth appearance in Halle. After picking up back-to-back first round losses to Halle in 2019 and 2021, Hurkacz did it all year on the grass courts of Halle last year.
Tsitsipas, Hurkacz join star-studded field of players from Halle
Previously, Kyrgios, Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jannik Sinner have also signed up to compete in Halle. Last year, Hurkacz and Medvedev reached the final in Halle.
Although Medvedev was the favorite in the Halle final, it was Hurkacz who ended up winning the title when the Pole defeated the Russian 6-1 6-4. After dismantling Medvedev for his first grass court title, Hurkacz couldn’t hide his happiness from him.
“I’m super excited, I’ve been waiting a bit for my first Stefanos Tsitsipas, Hubert Hurkacz join star-studded Halle player field this year. I am happy to win my first ATP 500 title and of course on grass it is very special. I was serving pretty well today and got a bit of momentum from the first game.
I saved a couple of deuces in my service game and then managed to break Daniil’s serve, so I definitely got a bit of a boost. I am very happy with the win in front of such a big crowd here,» said Hurkacz after winning her first grass court title in Halle. It remains to be seen if Hurkacz can defend her Halle title this year.
