Sania Mirza Out Of Us Open, Hints At Retirement Plans Change

Sania Mirza out of the US Open, hints at a change in retirement plans

Former doubles World No. 1 Sania Mirza suffered a torn tendon and is out of the US Open. Mirza, a six-time Grand Slam doubles champion, was scheduled to play her last Grand Slam at the upcoming US Open. Unfortunately, Mirza suffered an injury at the worst possible time and is forced to miss the last Grand Slam of the year.

But there is still a chance that we will see Mirza at another Grand Slam as he has hinted that he will now likely make some changes to his retirement plans. At the beginning of the 2022 season, Mirza announced that he planned to retire at the end of the season.

«Hey guys, a quick update. I just have some not so good news. I hurt my forearm/elbow while playing in Canada two weeks ago and obviously didn’t realize how bad it was until I had my scans done yesterday and sadly I I have torn a bit of the tendon.

I will be out for (a few) weeks and have withdrawn from the US Open. This is not ideal and it is a terrible time and it will change some of my retirement plans but I will keep you posted. With love, Sania,» Mirza wrote on Instagram Story.

Mirza is also unlikely to play at the Chennai Open

The inaugural edition of the Chennai Open is scheduled to start on September 12.

Mirza, one of the best Indian tennis players of all time, will probably not play in Chennai. «But now that she’s injured, it doesn’t look like she’s going to play at the US Open and if she’ll be fit enough to play for us, we’ll just have to wait and see.»

Even if she doesn’t play, TNTA would like to invite her and congratulate her on the amazing career she has had,» said Viyaj Amritraj. It remains to be seen when Mirza will be able to return to action and for a long time he intends to keep playing.
