Andy Roddick: &Quot;Roger Federer Made Me Suffer&Quot;

«Roger Federer made me suffer»

In a recent interview with the New York Post, andy roddick revealed why he has always fought against Roger Federer. The Swiss won in 21 of the 24 direct matches, to which is added a balance of 8-0 in Grand Slams, 4-0 in finals.

Roddick said: «Playing against Roger Federer was the worst possible matchup for me. My strengths didn’t put him in enough trouble, on the contrary, they ended up improving his game. When I faced Rafael Nadal, I knew my serve would bother him and that my power would force him to retreat.

Against Roger it was different. He was able to take me out of my comfort zone. Rafa did the same against Federer thanks to his left-footed forehand. There are pairings that are particularly favorable for one player and very unfavorable for the other.»

The American also spoke about the next US Open: «Everything will depend on Nadal’s form. He only played one match after retiring from Wimbledon and did not shine against Borna Coric. I see Daniil Medvedev well, who has shown that he is good on these fields.

We must not underestimate Nick Kyrgios, who is having the best season of his entire career.»

roger is back

Although he just turned 41, Roger Federer has no intention of giving up. The last two seasons have been especially difficult for the King, forced to deal with a serious problem in his right knee.

The former world number 1 played just 13 official matches in 2021, racking up nine wins and four losses. After being eliminated by Hubert Hurkacz in the 2021 Championship, the Master decided to have knee surgery for the third time in 18 months.

Barring any further setbacks, the Swiss champion will be back on the field in the Laver Cup next month. Roger will close his very short season at the ATP in Basel, back on the calendar after the last two editions had been canceled due to the pandemic.
