Taberner needs to retire

It was a Spanish duel that we had in the first round Tenerife Challenger between Pablo Llamas and Carlos Taberner. Placed last week, the Valencian already had a good week to reach the quarterfinals, but this time he could only be on the field for three games. After the Llamas won the first quarter 3-0, Carlos has decided to withdraw because he has not seen the guarantees to continue.

The 20-year-old tennis player, who is ranked 352 in the world, received an invitation to this main series. This is his first tournament of the season and he wants to continue great inertia at the end of 2022 where he reached the semi-finals at the Challenger in Maspalomas, losing to Dusan Lajovic.

Also, a week earlier in Valencia, he had also just made it to this round when Luca Van Assche beat him. These tournaments were on clay, and now Llamas wants to perform on a hard court nice week at Challenger in Tenerife after Taberner’s retirement.

Rincón cannot face the Italian Gigante

Daniel Rincon coming off a great January with three finals, two titles and a losing final at the Rafa Nadal Academy, was given a wild card. However, he could not win Matthew Giant who had entered as a lucky loser after falling out of the main draw. The Italian won the match in just over an hour with a score of 6-4, 6-2. That’s why he has left one Spaniard in the Tenerife team. Pablo Llamas is the only local representative in the second round.
