Kyrgios aims for a big run at the US Open
The 27-year-old Kyrgios reached his first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon last year.
Now, he is seen as a title contender at the US Open. Kyrgios has played a lot of quality tennis over the summer and has beaten some of the biggest names in the game. But there are downsides to playing a lot of tennis, and Kyrgios has admitted to feeling mentally and physically drained.
«I’m exhausted, that’s for sure,» Kyrgios said. “After Wimbledon, and Washington, and everything, I haven’t been able to go home and enjoy it with my family and just take a breather. So I am extremely exhausted.
I know this is my last stop until I can go home so I keep an eye on that. No other tennis player has to deal with that apart from the Australians. This is my last little trip and I can go home. So that’s all I’m thinking about.»
After the US Open, Kyrgios plans to return to Australia. For the first time in his career, Kyrgios will not compete in the Laver Cup, which begins in late September. Kyrgios has been traveling for several months and has not been able to see his mother, who is really not in good health.
At the US Open, Kyrgios has never made it to the second week. But Kyrgios is enjoying the season of his life and can definitely make some noise at Flushing Meadows for the first time in his career.
