Danill Medvedev spoke at the press conference after his semifinal victory in Doha about the match, the opponent in the final and his goals.
Medvedev returns to the finals for the second time in as many weeks, this time at the ATP 250 in Doha. The Russian defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets against Andy Murray in the final. Daniil faces the duo with six wins and no losses, which no one has achieved against Aliassime. The Russian spoke about this at the press conference and also commented on aspects of his Murray final or some of his goals this year.
competition with Felix
«Sometimes singles suits you well and you like to play against them. There’s probably something in the tactics or game that I do well against him and that’s enough to beat him. But I’ve always said that head-to-head matches are very relative, Zverev dominated before me 5-1 and I managed to make it 6-5 in my favour. Everything can change very quickly. Also, the matches against him are always very tough, in Australia he had match points to beat me, he is a very tough opponent.
About Murray
«The way he played here, the way he won his matches, it’s just unbelievable. I don’t think anyone would have thought to come back today when it was 5-4 and 40-0. Sometimes there are comebacks in tennis, but they usually don’t happen in the same tournament as he has done. Andy is incredible and I have to play my best tennis from the first ball to the last if I want to win. I’m looking forward to a great match.»
Objectives
«I want to do better than last year in the Grand Slam and the Master 1000. But it’s not easy, everyone wants to win and they’re starting to know how you play. You have to constantly adapt. My goal is to show my best tennis, I know that when I play well, I am dangerous to all tennis players in the world«.
