Tennis icon Martina Navratilova has given an update on her health and wellbeing as she waits to start her chemotherapy sessions after undergoing two surgeries and four biopsies to remove the tumor from her body.
Earlier this month, Navratilova announced that she had been diagnosed with throat and breast cancer. Due to her diagnosis, Navratilova was unable to travel to the Australian Open. But during her appearance on Tennis Channel, Ella Navratilova seemed to be in high spirits.
«I’m ready to go. Ready to go on treatment. I’ve had two surgeries and four biopsies and radiation, chemotherapy waiting. But I’m ready to go. And I’m ready to go in other ways like Well, once I can play again , I have my little thing tight here.
I just found these Wimbledon resistance bands in my shopping bag, I don’t know how they got there. And I have my water bottle as always. So, I’m ready to go. It’s nice to be with you, I wish I was there. But I’ll be there next time,» Navratilova said on Tennis Channel.
The entire tennis community prays for Navratilova
13 years ago, Navratilova was diagnosed with breast cancer. More than a decade ago, Navratilova beat the disease. Unfortunately, her breast cancer recurred and she was also diagnosed with throat cancer.
At least Navratilova’s cancer was caught in the early stages, so the initial prognosis was very optimistic. «Martina Navratilova has been diagnosed with stage one throat cancer. The prognosis is good and Martina will start her treatment this month.
The type of cancer is HPV and this particular type responds very well to treatment,» a statement on January 4 read. After Navratilova announced the diagnosis, messages of support began pouring in from across the tennis community for Navratilova.
In one of her Twitter posts, Navratilova took a moment to express her gratitude to everyone who sent a message of support.
