Dan Evans has threatened to leave the British Davis Cup team because he feels it is «insulting» that he has no doubles chances in the competition. Evans, who made his Davis Cup debut in 2009 and was part of the British team that won the title in 2015, has been regularly representing Great Britain for the past decade.
However, he is not happy that he has not been given any opportunity to represent his nation in doubles. “It’s f——- annoying. It’s disappointing. To be honest, it’s also a bit insulting that I’ve never been chosen to play in the Davis Cup. [in doubles]Evans told the newspaper i.
Evans confident in his stunt skills
Last month, Great Britain failed to progress from the group stage of the Davis Cup final. In their first two group matches, Great Britain suffered defeats after Andy Murray and Joe Salisbury lost in the decider.
“This is meant in the best possible way for the doubles guys, there’s nothing against them. But I don’t need to play doubles on tour to show how good I am at doubles. When I do, I usually play well,» Evans added.
Last year, Evans and Skupski reached back-to-back Masters finals in Miami and Monte Carlo. «I played Neal before for a year to try to play Davis Cup, and I don’t know why I’ve never played,» Evans explained.
If nothing changes in the foreseeable future, Evans is set to step down from representing Great Britain in the Davis Cup. «It’s something that I have to think about going forward if I want to get back in position to stay there and we’re not getting the right results,» Evans concluded.
In Glasgow last month, Evans went 1-1 in singles. After losing to Tommy Paul of the United States, Evans defeated Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in his next match.
