Iga Swiatek Opens Up On How She Is Dealing With Expectations Ahead Of Us Open

Iga Swiatek talks about how she’s coping with expectations ahead of the US Open

World No.1 Iga Swiatek reveals that she is trying not to pay attention to pundits’ opinions, but admitted that she is aware that there are high expectations placed on her, as she will enter the US Open as the main head of Serie. Swiatek has not played well this summer but she remains the most successful player this season.

This summer on hard courts, Swiatek is just 2-2, having suffered back-to-back round of 16 losses in Toronto and Cincinnati. «In a sense, I don’t pay attention to it (expert opinions), although those voices often come to me, but you have to learn to work with that as well,» Swiatek said, via Sportskeeda.

«I think that’s the role of the higher-ranked players to deal with outside expectations. But I’m good at insulating myself from that and focusing on what I need to do.»

Swiatek on US Open ball rules

In Cincinnati, Swiatek criticized the US Open balls, calling them «horrible» and «pretty bad».

«The balls are specific, ours get destroyed very quickly, and after two games they behave completely differently than they did in the beginning. It’s demanding. In fact, I said all about it in Cincinnati, and now I’m more focused on learning how to play these «. balls and adapt to it,» Swiatek said.

The US Open is the only Grand Slam where men and women play with a different type of ball. Going forward, Swiatek expects that rule to change in the near future. «I think I’m one of those players that has a little more challenging way of getting used to these balls, because of the style of play.

But they all have the same path, so I don’t want to use the ball thing as an excuse or show that it can be difficult here,» Swiatek explained. «I’m still working on learning how to play those balls. . I hope that in years to come we will be seen as playing the same balls as men at the Grand Slams.»
