Novak Djokovic: 'I Had A Game With Myself'

‘I had a game with myself’

One of the main arguments in favor of Novak Djokovic in the discussion about being the best tennis player in history is due to the productivity that the Serb has had on all surfaces. From the Australian Open, through Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open, he has achieved success wherever he has been.

Already with 22 Grand Slams to his credit, the same number as Rafael Nadal, it is clear that Melbourne Park is the favorite place in the Serb’s career, where he has won 86 of his 91 matches played for 94% effectiveness.

His last loss dates back to the fourth round of 2018 against South Korean Hyeon Chung. Of those 22 «big ones», the one that has won the most is precisely the Australian Open with 10 championships, followed by 7 at Wimbledon, 3 at the US Open and 2 more at Roland Garros.

Along with Nadal, he is the only one who has won at least two titles in each of the four Grand Slams. But it doesn’t end there. It’s not that it’s coincidence. Djokovic has been planted in all tournaments with a real chance of winning, even on the clay of Paris.

Since Australia is where they have won the most titles, it is also where they have won the most with 89. Then comes Wimbledon, with 86 wins, followed by 85 at Roland Garros. This is precisely the most surprising fact. Finally, his 81 victories at the US Open appear.

The Serbian is the only player in history to record at least 80 wins in each of the four Grand Slams. According to Novak Djokovic, those difficulties have made him appreciate everything he has, and have also contributed to forging his benevolent character.

Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas

Following his historic victory at the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic revealed the tournament he always dreamed of winning as a child. «When I was eight years old, I was in my room, in Belgrade Serbia, where I’m from, and I was making the makeshift Wimbledon trophy out of the materials I had in the room.

I was playing like a little toy and I was having a game with myself and I would look in the mirror and I would hold this trophy and I would say that one day I will be a Wimbledon champion. So, that was the tournament I always dreamed of winning,» he revealed.

«I always wanted to win as many Grand Slams as possible, but I never thought I would win that many Australian Opens, no,» he said.
