The fans especially, the turnout was incredible and it makes me very proud to be an American playing in a home event, with how many people there were in the stands. This year was amazing after losing in the first and second round. [almost] every year I’ve been here.
I couldn’t be happier to come back and have this result,» Fritz said, according to the ATP website.
How did Fritz beat Kecmanovic in the Delray Beach final?
Fritz got off to an outstanding start in the Delray Beach final as he broke Kecmanovic three times in the first set, all without allowing a single break point, to easily win the opening set.
After easily losing the first set, Kecmanovic found a bit of a rhythm and began to play much better. Leading 4-3 in the second set, Fritz had the first break points of the set, but Kecmanovic saved both of the American’s break chances to tie the set at four games apiece.
In the tenth game, when Kecmanovic was serving to stay in the final, he saved a championship point to tie the set at five games apiece. After saving a championship point, Kecmanovic earned his first break of the match in the eleventh game and served for the second set in the following game.
The failure of Fritz to close out the final in straight sets did not affect the American, however, as he broke Kecmanovic in the fourth and eighth games of the third set to seal the Delray Beach title.
