NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo reveals that he is good friends with Maria Sakkari and enjoys watching her play tennis. Antetokounmpo, who won consecutive NBA MVP awards in 2019 and 2020, is currently the best Greek basketball player and one of the most popular athletes in his country.
Antetokounmpo is also a fan of tennis as he supports his compatriots Sakkari and Stefanos Tsitsipas. «She’s amazing. She’s like a ball of fire and I love that about her. She plays with a lot of intensity.»

Sakkari, 27, is set to make her second WTA Finals appearance. During her pre-tournament press conference, Sakkari spoke about her admiration for Antetokounmpo. «I think there are so many things that you can be inspired by and learn from Giannis because for me, he is my idol.
He is the person I admire the most. He and Rafa I would say. These two people are the people I want to try to be like. Giannis, he is an inspiration, not only because of his story and you know how it started.
It’s just his approach and the way he does things during the game, in practice, off the court. Like the way he talked to me a few times, it makes me admire him even more. He is very unique. Like, I don’t think there are many athletes like him in the whole world.
