Emma Raducanu and Cori Gauff have signed up to compete in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, the tournament announced. Raducanu, 20, made her debut on the clay courts of Stuttgart last year. In her tournament debut, Raducanu reached the quarterfinals before losing to Iga Swiatek.
On the other hand, Gauff also made her debut last year, losing in the first round to Daria Kasatkina. Raducanu, who is Porsche’s global ambassador, hopes to compete in the event for the second year in a row. “Porsche Tennis Grand Prix is one of the best tournaments on the calendar.
Center court at the Porsche Arena is brilliant. I’m also looking forward to a drive or two in a Porsche sports car and experiencing more of the brand, like visiting the factory,» Raducanu said, according to the tournament’s website.
Raducanu, Gauff excited to compete in Stuttgart
‟I always love coming to Stuttgart. The fast clay court is right up my street and the tournament is something special on the WTA Tour. The public creates a fantastic atmosphere and supports all the players.» Gauff said.
Meanwhile, the tournament organizers are also delighted that Raducanu and Gauff are signing up for the tournament. “We are delighted that Coco and Emma have confirmed their coming. They are two fantastic prospects and will enrich our event.
Coco was in the doubles final last year and Emma is a Grand Slam champion. Despite the tough competition at the tournament, both definitely have the potential to compete this year for the individual title,» said Stuttgart tournament director Markus Gunthardt.
Previously, the organizers of the Stuttgart tournament confirmed Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka and Caroline Garcia for their event. Last year, Swiatek captured her first title in Stuttgart after beating Sabalenka in the final. This year, Swiatek, considered the best player on clay, will undoubtedly be the favorite to win Stuttgart again.
It will be interesting to see if Raducanu or Gauff can make a deep run in Stuttgart, which takes place between April 17-23.
