Daniil Medvedev shares thoughts on Taylor Fritz’s potential

World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev called Taylor Fritz a «great player» and added that the 24-year-old American has the potential to become one of the best in the world. Fritz has been playing the tennis of his life this season, as he won his first Masters title at Indian Wells and reached his first Grand Slam quarterfinal at Wimbledon.

Additionally, Fritz achieved a career-high of No. 12 this year. «He has potential and he showed it many, many times, especially of course in Indian Wells. I mean, getting the Masters 1000 title is really tough. He has potential to be a great player.»

Medvedev ended Fritz’s streak in Cincinnati

In the Cincinnati Masters quarterfinals, Medvedev beat Fritz in straight sets 7-6(1) 6-3.

After winning a tight first set, Medvedev earned the first break of the match in the second game of the second set. One break of serve was more than enough for Medvedev, who routinely held serve from him the rest of the match to complete a straight-set victory.

It was the first meeting between Medvedev and Fritz. Fritz reaching the later stages of Masters and Grand Slam tournaments now is nothing unusual. If that continues, Fritz is sure to have many more matches against Medvedev.
