Daniil Medvedev paid tribute to the Big Four after the Doha final, admitting that «it’s an incredible feeling» to play against Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Medvedev, 27, defeated Murray 6-4, 6-4 in the Doha final to lift his second title of the year.
«You know, speaking of, like, new generation, old generation, well, I’m 27, so I don’t think I’m more of a new generation. I’m kind of medium. So, yeah, I was happy to see Andy on the other side of the network because he is a legend.
Every time I play against him, Novak, Roger, well not anymore, Rafa, it’s an incredible feeling. It’s an amazing environment all the time. I was happy to share this final with him,» Medvedev said, according to sportskeeda.
Medvedev defeated Murray in straight sets for the Doha title
Medvedev got off to a very strong start in the Doha final, breaking Murray in the first game of the match.
After saving two break points in game four, Medvedev broke Murray for a second time in game five to open up a 4-1 lead. Down by two breaks, Murray refused to resign as he rallied on a break in the sixth game. After recovering a break, Murray also had a chance to recover the second break, but Medvedev saved a break point in the eighth game to open up a 5-3 lead.
In the tenth game, Medvedev routinely served for the first set. After winning the first set, Medvedev began the second set by breaking Murray in the first game. Down a set and a break, Murray didn’t give up as he broke Medvedev in the sixth game to tie the second set at three games apiece.
Losing an early break in the second set, however, did not affect Medvedev, who broke Murray again in the ninth game for a 5-4 lead before serving for the match in the following game.
