World No.6 Caroline Garcia has parted ways with trainer Bertrand Perret and it appears that the two did not really have a happy parting. Garcia, 29, has now been left without a coach just before the start of the WTA Finals. Garcia, who had problems with her game and results in 2020, 2021, rediscovered her best tennis in 2022 with the help of coach Perret.
Perret apparently didn’t even want to wait until the end of the WTA Finals to end her collaboration with Garcia. “I am not a man of false pretenses and when it’s over, it’s over. There have been problems.
They ended up spoiling the atmosphere and I preferred to stop. I do this job for fun and there wasn’t much [any more]Perret told L’Equipe, as revealed by James Gray.
Perret on not waiting another week and making the WTA Finals: «I’m not a man of false pretenses and when it’s over, it’s over.
There have been problems. They ended up spoiling the atmosphere and I preferred to stop. I do this job for fun and there wasn’t much [any more].» — James Gray (@jamesgraysport) October 28, 2022
Garcia rediscovered his best tennis this year
After failing to accomplish much for three years, Garcia rediscovered his best tennis last summer.
Over the summer, Garcia captured her first WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati and also made it as far as Bad Homburg and Warsaw. In addition, Garcia reached the semifinal of the US Open. When Garcia was asked over the summer what had helped her rediscover her old game, she suggested that Coach Perret encouraged her to never doubt her and always try to go for her shots.
«I think when I came on tour, I was definitely playing like that. That’s the way I learned to play tennis. You have to have real faith in it. If not, mistakes come pretty quickly. So I hesitated. Time happens». and you realize that it’s not working backwards, and you try to change, you try to have people around you who believe in this style of play that made you go even further than in the past.
I did it and I really liked it. Hitting winners, going to the net, that’s definitely what I enjoy in tennis and what I enjoy too, how I enjoy watching people play. That’s what I like,» Garcia explained over the summer. Garcia, who made her WTA Finals debut in 2017, is set to make her second appearance at the prestigious season-ending tournament.
