Khachanov enjoyed a solid run at the Australian Open
In this past Australian Open, Khachanov reached the semifinal before losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas.
For Khachanov, it was a back-to-back Grand Slam semifinal appearance. At the 2022 US Open, Khachanov was defeated by Casper Ruud in the semifinal. After reaching his first Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open, Khachanov also reached the quarterfinal at Melbourne Park.
But despite losing to Tsitsipas in four sets in the Australian Open semifinal, Khachanov maintained a positive spirit, insisting it was a good experience and a great lesson. «I would say I did it for the second time in a row, back-to-back semis, I would definitely do it. [leave] with my head [held] high.
You always need to take some lessons, take something, some experience, to move on, to improve. Unfortunately, there is no tie in our sport: one guy has to win and go through. hopefully me [will] keep believing that I can pass this step next time, if I’m in this situation,» Khachanov said after losing to Tsitsipas in the Australian Open semifinal.
Khachanov, a former world number 8, returned to number 13 following his strong run at the Australian Open. Khachanov is off to a strong start to the 2023 season and it will be interesting to see if he can achieve stronger results in the remainder of 2023.
