Arthur Fils managed to win the title at the ATP Challenger in Oeiras 2 by defeating Joris De Loore 6-1, 7-6(4) in an hour and 38 minutes of play.

18-year-old French tennis player, Arthur Son He started the 2023 season in the best possible way, as he performed his record on the Challenger circuit at the Oeiras tournament. He qualified for the first time to be able to fight for the title on this track against a tennis player who had already won the duel last year. The Belgian had emerged as the champion during the first week of competition on Portuguese soil and was on a roll, showing high level tennis. Consecutive victories remained at nine.
First title for the Phils
In the first set, the French managed to make a difference from the start. He got two breaks to go 4-0 up, but it wasn’t exactly easy, as every time he got a break, he had to save a break point in those consolidation games. He had a chance to fix the donut but the Belgian didn’t allow it as he saved a breaking ball that saw him add the first game of the match. Fils looked to be in control of the game when he took the lead early in the second period, but Joris hadn’t had his last word. He was able to enjoy more and provide the level that had led him to two finals at the Oeiras tournament. He tied the game and at 4-5 there were even seven set chances that he couldn’t confirm. A very long game that warranted a radical change in the duel, but the Frenchman settled it and both went unopposed to sudden death. Several mini power outages, but that was it Fils was the one who managed to break away and when the first match point arrived he eliminated De Loore in the Challenger de Oeiras.
