Venus Williams Reflects On Serena Williams' Retirement

Venus Williams reflects on Serena Williams’ retirement

Venus Williams admitted Serena Williams’ retirement from tennis was «unimaginable» at first as she now hopes her sister will at least remain her batting partner. Serena, a 23-time Grand Slam champion, retired from tennis after the US Open.

Venus, 42, is still active as she has indicated she plans to continue her career. Through her clothing brand EleVen by Venus, the seven-time Grand Slam champion answered some of the questions she received from fans.

«Unimaginable at first. But I’ve had time to prepare. I’m sure it will still hit me,» Venus wrote.

Venus Williams seems to be done with doubles

For the first time since 2018, the Williams sisters played doubles together.

Unfortunately, they suffered a first round loss at the US Open to Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova. With Serena retired, Venus appears to be done with doubles. «I think I’m retired from doubles now,» Venus said.

Venus was out for 12 months before returning to singles action in Washington. Williams appeared in four tournaments during the North American hard court tour and went 0-4. Venus has indicated that he has no immediate plans for this season, but that we could see him perform in 2023.

«No plans for this year. But watch out for next year. Work on my game. Spending time with family. Time with my teams. And time at home. Been a while,» he wrote.

Also, Venus was asked about her favorite moment with Roger Federer.

In 2007, Venus won the Wimbledon women’s singles title, while Federer went all the way in the men’s event. «Winning Wimbledon 2007, I think,» said Venus. After Serena revealed her plans to withdraw from her after the US Open, some suspected that Venus would do the same, but that she would do so after she finished her campaign. Fortunately, that didn’t happen and Venus Williams seems ready to continue her career.
