Tim Henman on Roger Federer accompanied by Big Four in the final tournament

Former British No. 1 Tim Henman believes that Roger Federer surrounded by other members of the Big Four group is a perfect farewell for the Swiss. Federer, 41, plans to retire after this week’s Laver Cup in London. Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are set to be Federer’s teammates on Team Europe.

«I think it’s very appropriate that the big four, Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray, are all at one event,» Henman told Eurosport. «And with that being the last time Federer is on a competitive match court, it’s a great farewell to his fellow competitors and I’m sure it will be an amazing farewell to all the fans there.»

Henman: The fans will certainly give Federer a proper sendoff

This year’s Laver Cup takes place in London, the place where Federer has found success throughout his career. Throughout his career, Federer was successful in London: he won Wimbledon eight times and the ATP Finals several times while it was held in London.

Henman hopes that the London crowd will definitely come out and show great support for Federer. “I think the atmosphere at Laver Cup is going to be amazing,” said Henman. “It will be my first Laver Cup, I have never experienced the atmosphere and the whole event itself.

With this being his retirement, playing at the O2, which is an incredible stadium, I think it will be a send-off that he deserves. It is very difficult to plan these things and you have to be very lucky to get the right opportunity. [for a great send-off]but for me it is absolutely ideal.

It’s an event he’s been a big part of, both on and off the pitch, and I’m sure the fans in London will give him a proper send-off.»
