Rafael Nadal Optimistic He Can Raise His Level In Rest Of Us Open

Rafael Nadal optimistic that he can raise his level in the rest of the US Open

Rafael Nadal is confident he can raise the level of his game and insists he is practicing much better than playing at the US Open. On Thursday night, Nadal avoided a surprise exit from the US Open as he rallied from a set down to beat Fabio Fognini 2-6 6-4 6-2 6-1.

In the second set, Nadal was three times down by a break, but still found a way to bounce back and tie the match at one set apiece. From that moment on, there was only one player on the pitch. “Happy to be alive after tonight.

Now is the time to play better. I hope to be ready for that to happen,» Nadal said, via Tennis Majors. “I am practicing much, much better than I am playing. That’s a positive thing. So I need to make that happen in matches.

It is something that is not easy. But I’m taking a step forward.»

Nadal happy with how he finished against Fognini

In the third set, Nadal broke Fognini three times to go up two sets to one. Nadal then broke Fognini twice in the fourth set to complete a four-set victory.

Nadal, who also battled Rinky Hijikata in the first round, was pleased with how Fognini finished the match. «I think at the end of today’s match I played better than in the first round for sure too,» Nadal said.

“It’s an improvement. Two games already. Two wins. That helps. Now another chance against Richard.» Nadal plays next with a very familiar face, Richard Gasquet. Nadal and Gasquet will go head-to-head for the 18th time when they meet at the US Open.

Going into the match, Nadal is the absolute favourite, considering his impressive 17-0 record against Gasquet. Nadal has not lost a set against Gasquet since 2008.
