Frances Tiafoe, after reaching the US Open semifinals for the first time in her career, made a bold statement that may worry the other Grand Slam contenders. “I don’t even know what to say here right now.
These were the best two weeks of my life. I gave everything I had and was very close to achieving the goal. A lot of growth was done during the two weeks. I just want to thank my family, my team, my closest friends and anyone who has pushed me forward in my career…you all know who you are.
This made me hungrier than ever to one day win one of these things. US Open, thank you for coming this far behind me. A DMV kid coming from such humble beginnings to later rock the biggest stadium in our game means the world to me.
Thank you for paying them their hard earned money to come and show love. I have so much more to give to this game. I can’t wait for you guys to enjoy the ride with me. I love you New York, I’ll be back,» Tiafoe said on Instagram.
Tiafoe also noted that he feels in a better place to compete for Grand Slams when he spoke about his career at the US Open.
“I mean, I can play with the best obviously, and I’m capable of winning Grand Slams. I think everyone knew what he could do when he played his best. But you know how close I can get to being one of those guys and doing this consistently.
Obviously throughout my career I’ve been pretty sporadic of playing well, going off the rails for a while. I have always supported myself against the best players in the world. I’m doing it consistently, starting to beat guys easier.
Ready to take the next step,» Tiafoe said.
Tennis stars believe in Tiafoe
American tennis legends Chris Evert and James Blake have encouraged Frances Tiafoe to keep her head up following her US Open semi-final exit. «You made us PROUD, Frances Tiafoe, and one day you will win the US Open,» Evert wrote on Twitter.
Blake added: «Big Foe, you didn’t let anyone down. Quite the opposite, in fact. Raised so many with your game and heart. Many more chances,» Blake wrote on Twitter.
