Iga Swiatek shares her thoughts on playing mixed doubles with Rafael Nadal

World No.1 Iga Swiatek has admitted that getting the chance to play mixed doubles with Rafael Nadal was a «pretty amazing» experience. Just a couple of days before the start of the last Grand Slam of the season, the organizers of the US Open organized a charity event for Ukraine.

Swiatek, Nadal and several other prominent players took part in an event that was aimed at raising funds and money for Ukraine. Swiatek, who grew up watching and idolizing Nadal, had the opportunity to play mixed doubles as a record 22-time Grand Slam champion.

«It was pretty amazing,» Swiatek told Vogue. «We already played singles a couple of years ago at Roland Garros, which was actually a birthday present from my team. [Laughs.] But it was pretty amazing to be on the same side of the court playing doubles, and especially for a great cause: being able to use our voices together to help people is pretty amazing.

It was a moment where I stopped for a moment and thought about what a long journey it had been to get here, and getting there is truly a dream come true. Rafa is a great person on and off the court and she has inspired me a lot, especially this season when I watched her final at the Australian Open.

It really gave me extra motivation and even more courage on the court when I really needed it, so I’m thankful that I got to spend some time with Rafa as well.» For Swiatek, this year’s US Open was excellent.

After playing mixed doubles with Nada, Swiatek captured her third Grand Slam title at the US Open. Now, Swiatek has two French Open titles and one US Open title. Swiatek now needs an Australian Open and Wimbledon title to complete a career Grand Slam.
