Iga Swiatek Gives Funny Response When Asked About Her Bagel Sets In 2022

Iga Swiatek gives a hilarious answer when asked about her bagel games in 2022

World No.1 Iga Swiatek bagged her 19th bagel of the season after beating Jule Niemeier 2-6, 6-4, 6-0. Swiatek, who advanced to her first US Open quarterfinal following her win over Niemeier, was asked if she was aware of her 2022 bagel record.

Swiatek replied that he was aware, all through a Twitter account associated with his name. «I’m aware (smiling). I saw on Twitter an account that goes by the name of Iga Swiatek Bakery. That’s pretty funny,» Swiatek told Reem Abulleil.

Swiatek focused on the ‘right things,’ not stripes

Earlier this season, Swiatek won 37 straight matches before losing to Alize Cornet in the third round at Wimbledon.

After beating Niemeier, Swiatek acknowledged that winning streaks and bagels are good, but his main focus is on much more important things. «I’m just going to try to focus on the right things and not really think about it because that was basically the key during that streak that I had,» he said.

«This time I’m going to, yeah, do the same thing and just focus on the little things that will give me break points and then break.» On Monday, Swiatek trailed Niemeier by a set and a break. But Swiatek managed to find a way to create a comeback and escape a surprise exit from the US Open.

«I’m proud that I haven’t given up hope,» Swiatek said. “She was playing very well in the first set. I had a hard time pushing her back. In the second set I tried to focus on the little things and I’m glad it worked out and I used my experience to keep the same level throughout the match.»

In the US Open quarterfinals, Swiatek plays Jessica Pegula. Before the match, Swiatek owns a 2-1 record against American Pegula. Swiatek has already beaten Pegula twice this season (Miami, French Open).
